My Rabbit Died Today

It's a sad day for me.  My rabbit, Ruby (named after my growing affection for Ruby on Rails) just died.  I don't know what she died from, if anything.  Just today I was playing with her and chasing her around the room.  She seemed so vibrant, healthy, and playful.

I got home from an afternoon of reading where I was met by my wife who was sitting on the stairs entering the house.  She had a look on her face that expressed something was wrong.  I asked and she told me.  I'm saddened because Ruby was raised from near infancy.  I fed her with an eye dropper when her eyes were still closed.  I remember the excitement Sarah and I shared with our niece when Ruby opened her eyes for the first time.

I know death is inevitable but that doesn't make it any easier to take.  I love animals.  My dream would be someday live on a farm where nothing would keep me from owning and keeping animals.  I know it was "just a rabbit" but for some reason that isn't easing the pain right now.
