Avalon, baby!

After spending a few hours twiddling my thumbs waiting for the huge download to finish, I finally got to play with Avalon last night. Some thoughts

  •  Don't use Virtual PC if you want good Avalon performance
  •  Don't use Windows 2003 if you want to run any of the 3D stuff. The current build does not support 3D on Win2k3
  • Don't be a dork like me and install Avalon on a Win2k3 build on a Virtual PC machine. Do it right the first time
  • XAML is not meant to edited by humans. Not at all. People like Macromedia and Adobe could make a killing out of Xaml tools if Sparkle is not up to the mark
  • Avalon is huge.
  • Vector graphics are amazing. I'll never be able to write resizing code again
  • Anti aliasing rocks
  • Avalon is a performance hog when running 3D animations. This should change with the new driver model in Longhorn - but I doubt whether they'll ever get good 3D performance on XP or 2k3
Hopefully, I'll be able to post some screenshots once I get the hang of XAML.
