Free Publicity
Facing Free Software, Microsoft Looks to Yahoo
Another page one story about a software company buying an Internet company so they can freely distribute software and services.
Is this more collateral damage, or free publicity?
Yahoo's Board of Directors hasn't accepted Microsoft's massive offer and even if they do these types of stories are set to continue.
Yahoo does have 25 large data centers around the world, housing hundreds of thousands of servers. The real estate value alone of these data centers must be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Of course the BitTorrent generation has millions of severs distributed around the world with next to no overhead.
