I’ve been test driving the new Opera 9 browser for the past few days and I’m likening it.
I gave-up using FireFox a while ago, it had some nice features but it also had problems and I was tired of those crazed zealots who see it as the answer for all the worlds’ problems.
The Opera browser began in 1994 as a research project at Telenor, a Norwegian telephone company. Its first version was released as shareware and it strictly followed the standards set down by the W3C.
After writing versions for multi OS’s they decided to charge money to distinguish themselves from those FREE Browsers. Opera was a pioneer in CSS - Cascading Style Sheets, which made them very popular with web designers.
Opera 9 supports XSLT, XPath, SVG 1.1, TLS 1.1, Tabs, MDI - multiple document interface, which is like Windows in your browser.
Opera 9 also comes with a BitTorrent client, Pop-up blocker and Widgets….that must be Norwegian for Gadgets.
Opera 9 is now a FREE Browser, but like FireFox it’s ad supported. So give it a spin, there are a few issues with some MSN sites, but hopefully Windows Live will conform to those W3C standards.
