The Internet Services Disruption

Complexity kills, wrote Ray Ozzie in his seven page memo It sucks the life out of developers, it makes products difficult to plan, build and test, it introduces security challenges, and it causes end-user and administrator frustration.

Can This Man Reprogram Microsoft? Is a story in this Sunday's NYTimes about Ray Ozzie's emergence as Microsoft's great hope to create software on the network, as services replace shrink-raped software.

Readers of my blog will remember that I got a chance to talk to Ray at Web 2.0 and he was a very nice guy. Ray is a Technologist who has earned our respect through Lotus Notes and Groove, he's not a Salesman or a PR guy, he's the real deal. To architect Web Services you need to be a software developer who understands networking and Ray is the go-to guy to get this new system operating.

ISV Touchdown

Microsoft ISV Touchdown developer training makes it easy for you to explore the latest Microsoft technologies.

ISV Touchdown presents MSDN Virtual Labs: In Microsoft SQL Server 2005, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) replaces Data Transformation Services (DTS). SSIS is a major overhaul of DTS and is now an "industrial strength" extract, transform, and load (ETL) tool. This lab covers user interface changes and explains how to accomplish common tasks such as creating and executing SSIS packages, adding complex steps/sequences in SSIS packages, and implementing various transformations using SSIS. To register for this lab and to view the full list of virtual lab offerings, at ISV Touchdown.

In these Web seminars, you'll learn how to use the Windows Mobile platform, Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition to build business applications for both Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC and Smartphone devices.
