MEXICO city

Greetings from Mexico city! we had a great User Group meeting last night in New York City, Chris realy knows how to get Developers on track! THERE WERE OVER 100 members in attendence last night and enough pizzia to feed us all. Didn´t get much sleeep last night as I had to catch an early morning flight to Atlanta, then on to Mexico city and now I fly to Oaxaca.  I  was in Oaxaca three times last year and love it so much that I plan to return again and again.

NYC.Net Dev Meeting

Do you write code as part of a team? Developing enterprise-level applications requires more upfront planning and more procedures, not only to coordinate the larger team doing the development, but to make sure the application is maintainable and deployable. Come to this session to pick up some tips on how to structure your development environment. We will talk about how to best structure a team development environment, manage dependencies, create a repeatable build process and do basic smoke/unit testing. We will wrap up with a brief preview of what is coming in Visual Studio Team System.

Tonights speaker is Chris Kinsman, Vergent technologies

Chris Kinsman is the founder of Vergent Software and formerly the VP of Technology for DevX.com, a web site that provides information for developers. He has extensive experience with .NET, Web Farms, Clustering, Data Access, and Scalability. Chris is the author of "Visual Basic.NET Developer's Guide to ASP.NET, ADO.NET and XML" and "C# Developer's Guide to ASP.NET, ADO.NET and XML". Chris has spoken at a variety of conferences including VSLive and Microsoft TechEd, and is the track chair for ASPLive.

I have also heard a rumor that the 9guy might be making his NYC debus at this evenings meeting, see you there...

Running...

In the IT business, Hardware or Software you must keep running just to stay in the same place. If you want to get ahead you need to find other runners with the same goals so you can all learn from each other. I belong to four User Groups and have been to four Tech Conferences this year and at each I have learned new things and made new friends.

When I first got into computers I was completely isolated, it was just me and my machine. When I went to University we had one computer and the only time I got to use it was when we alphabetized the list of record albums at our Radio Station.

Blogs are also a fantastic way to learn and meet new people interested in emerging technologies. My blog is like a collage notebook recording my journey and it’s linked to many other blogs and we trackback to one another as we keep running…

The telcos are coming!

The Baby Bells are going Broadband and the Cable companies are going to be eclipsed.

SBC Communications is going to pay Microsoft $400 MILLION for software that will send HDTV programming over fiber optic cable that it hopes to connect 18 MILLION households by 2007.

Speeds of 15 to 20 mbps are here and soon to be everywhere the telcos go!

SBC plans to deploy Microsoft's software to encode television programming before it is sent to their subscribers and then decoded it on set-top boxes in our homes. Microsoft has invested over $20 BILLION over the last ten years to bring entertainment into our homes.

The TV, the telephone and the internet are converging at last!

H-1B

We are organizations concerned about America’s economic and technological future, and are united in urging Congress to act this year on a crucial workforce issue that threatens to undercut U.S. competitiveness and job growth.

Last October 1, the first day of the government’s 2005 fiscal year, the Department of Homeland Security announced it would accept no more petitions for new H-1B visas until fiscal 2006. The quota that limits visas to 65,000 per year was exhausted in one day.

For one full year, companies in the United States will be unable to hire highly educated foreign nationals who possess specialized skills that our economy needs -- skills in fields such as engineering, mathematics, physical and social sciences, medicine, education and the arts.

The timing could not be worse. Just as the economy is gaining strength, and as companies work to keep and expand jobs in the United States, we have been stymied in our efforts to employ the scarce talent that could help sustain the economy’s momentum. Although individuals with H-1B visas are only a small percentage of the total workforce in any of our organizations, we believe these talented individuals are an essential part of our ability to compete and succeed.

America is experiencing profound demographic and structural shifts in its technical workforce. While our economy has become more dependent on medical, scientific and engineering talent, fewer U.S. students are pursuing advanced degrees in these fields. The shortfall has been filled in large part by foreign nationals. Many of them came to the United States to study and are now engaged in advanced research at universities and in laboratories across the country.

All of our organizations are actively involved in efforts to expand the pipeline of American students pursuing degrees in scientific and technical fields where qualified workers are in short supply. But we cannot succeed overnight.

Meanwhile, it is vitally important for U.S. industries, universities, hospitals and research facilities to have access to highly educated professionals. It is counterproductive to force these talented individuals to work for our competitors overseas.

Congress has an opportunity to ease the problem now by providing an exemption from the cap on H-1B visas for individuals who have earned advanced degrees from American universities. Lawmakers also can help by finding ways to streamline the process of obtaining green cards for these professionals, whose education and specialized skills are needed to help maintain U.S. competitiveness and to help secure America’s technological future.

We urge Congress to act this year to address this immediate concern.

Digital Braille

When representatives from libraries around the world gathered at Microsoft to share best practices for improving services to people who are blind or print disabled, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates joined them to explore ideas for converting print and audio data to more accessible digital formats and distributing library resources over the Internet.

I live just about a mile from The Seeing Eye; we often see the dogs being trained on the streets and see the smiles on the faces of the blind people as they become accustomed to their new friends. We have talked about the promise of technology especially these computers that are so much a part of our lives. Now we are beginning to see the application of the power of the PC to help people lead more fulfilling lives. Just last week Russ Fustino a Microsoft as a Community Champion handed me his business card and it was embossed in braille, were all coders here.

Good Stuff

You can always tell a great speaker at a conference when other speakers come in to listen and this was the case at Billy Hollis Advanced Web Forms talk. Billy has what you could call a distinctive stile making the most out of his Tennessee twang and a tremendous amount of experience with Windows Forms, he makes it look so easy…

It was too bad Billy wasn’t available for the last assembly at DevConnections as his larger then life personality was needed. It seamed as if many attendees were on there way to the airport and those remaining were exhausted after long nights and early mornings. Our conference had been swamped by the Aqua Convention; they outnumbered us and were all around us, so we never really got a chance to connect as a group.

For me the workshops were worth the trip to Las Vegas, Kimberley Tripp in the pre-con was amazing and over one hundred attendees agreed. In the post-con not only were we lucky enough to have Gert Drapers from Microsoft’s SQL team we had Bill Vaughn sitting in the first row to help out whenever the SQL stuff got into the CLR and .Net stuff, good stuff!

re:connections

Another great day here at DevConnections, I have had a chance to catch-up with five of the people on my blogroll. Todays sessions began with Rob Howard talking about ASP.Net Provider Model Design Patterns, useful in ASP.Net 1.x and everywhere in ASP.Net 2.0! The new ASP.Net membership features are a great way to help with personalization and it is all about personalization these days.

Brian Noyes gave a great before lunch talk on ClickOnce with Mr. Web Forms Billy Hollis looking on. Lots on the new bootstrapper to “push-out” the .Net Framework 2.0 (remember nobody has the .Net Framework 2.0 installed yet), but the bootstrapper will require that the user is running Windows XP as an Admin, oh my! The MSI with auto upload will install everything you need for the ClickOnce to work, but you need to be the Admin.

This afternoon it's Sir Billy Hollis and advanced Web Forms, the conference network will be disabled by the time that is finished, so I will let you know how that went whenever I get a chance...

DevConnections

Another great day in the desert at DevConnections! Las Vegas is Las Vegas, a brand created by the Mob and now entrusted to the mega Hotel corporations with their opulent illusions. Last night I bumped into a “major” speaker at Microsoft conferences drunk and two hundred dollars down in the casino. Life is too much of a gamble, so I avoid games of chance because I don't want to throw away my luck for the sake of plastic chips.

So far I have been a winner here in Vegas, today with Dan Appleman, Bill Evjen, Dan Kiely and dear Kimberly Tripp. Kimberly just stoped by to say hi as I am writing this and Dan is walking by, it's nice the access conferences give you to people who bring you luck in learning.

Happy Halo2 Day

I wish I could be part of the action, today is the day Halo2 Launches! XBOX LIVE will be now go into OVERDRIVE! I've waited two years for this, can't wait to log-on as condor.

Guinness in the desert

The DOTNETROCKS Party was a good time, food, songs, code and friends (photos soon).

I spent my first day at DevConnections with Kimberly Tripp and she is a walking knowledge base about Data Bases, be sure to check out all her resourses.

Today I had the privilege of spending the day with the Microsoft Web Serves Team, Ari, Richard, Yasser, Chad and Raphael. My brain hearts, hopefully I'll retain a little of what they poured into me today after a few more of those desert Guinnesses!

Ready Rockheads?

Party! Party! Party!
You're invited to the .NET Rocks! Party in Las Vegas! Click Here for Information and Registration

I'm on my way to what has become the BIG DOTNETROCKS Party! It all started out with just a few developers blogging about getting together somewhere to kick back and have a good time.

DevConnections quickly become the facial point as many former guests of the DOTNETROCKS show were heading there to teach classes. Soon the gravity of the Black Hole Las Vegas began to draw developers from all over the country.

DevConnections is going to be a milestone conference featuring SQL Server 2005 and new role the CLR has to play. Yes, I’m very excited and just hope I survive the PARTY!

Melissa's Podcast

"The Operator left something for me." The last message from Melissa, no thing under this sun or any other...

An intersteller Podcast. We enjoyed the adventure that began with ilovebees. and concluded yesterday at the Combat Training Exercise. If you are ever back this way Melissa leave a comment on my blog.: )

AXIONS are HOT Axon Wavs  Melissa is whole again, thanks everybody!

SQL Server for Developers

Starting the week of December 6th, Microsoft will launch a series of webcasts focused on SQL Server 2005 Development. During the week of December 6th, Microsoft's MSDN will host 15 webcasts introducing all the new features of SQL Server 2005 for Developers.

The time has come for all good .Net Developers to begin learning everything there is to know about SQL Server 2005 ( yes I realize that before you will learn everything there is to know about SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 will arrive).

A good place to start is the SQL Server: Weblogs

I'm jumping in head first at SQL Server Connections, with day long workshops and back to back sessions taught by some of the best Data Base experts alive.

NJMSDEV+5

NJMSDEV.ORG was formed five years ago and tonight is our last meeting in Berkeley Heights as Microsoft's NJ office is moving. I joined in February 2000 and have enjoyed the friendly relaxed atmosphere with many great presentations from passionate developers exploring the wide range of Microsoft technologies, especially the emergence and adoption of Visual Studio.net

Tonight's topics;

Enterprise Development Reference Architecture (formerly Shadowfax) - Peter Laudati, Microsoft

Many of you are familiar with the MS patterns practices Application Blocks that have been released by the PAG team.  These include items such as the Data Access block and Configuration Management block. The Enterprise Development Reference Architecture (EDRA, formerlly known as "Shadowfax") is a new MS patterns practices deliverable that has been openly developed with community input via the GotDotNet website.EDRA is a sort of 'uber' application block that provides a framework for developing services in an SOA on the .NET platform. The PAG team developed the EDRA after talking with customers and reviewing solutions that were developed to solve similar problems on both the Microsoft® .NET and J2EE platforms. The EDRA provides the following: Architectural guidance describing how to address the following four principles:
    • Separating the service interface from the internal service implementation to allow for deployment scenarios that are optimized for scalability, reliability, security, performance, and availability.
    • Separating business logic from cross-cutting concerns such as logging, monitoring, or raising business events. (A cross-cutting concern is a type of functionality that can be applied to multiple classes or applications.)
    • Separating business logic from the underlying transport so that multiple transports can be used to access a single service implementation.
  • Developing stable service interfaces to ensure resiliency of deployed services.
An extensible application framework that incorporates reusable assets to facilitate development of distributed applications using ASP.NET Web services, Microsoft Windows® operating system Message Queuing, Enterprise Services, and, in the future, Web Service Enhancements (WSE) and Indigo.
Four QuickStart applications that demonstrate key capabilities of the framework.
  • An application template to help you set up a development environment to implement services and build client applications that use the services.

Infopath SP1 - Addy Santo, Microsoft

Infopath SP1 – With the recently added .NET support Infopath has become a first class development tool. This presentation will cover basic Infopath concepts and a walkthrough of common development tasks

In the coming months we hope to make our meetings available via Live meeting, join us at NJMSDev MSN Community.

    • Bees are busy

"The Operator left something for me."  I found a last message from Melissa.

I realize that some of my truest allies won't be able to come to any of the four training events scheduled for November 4th, where I will also be giving out a communications log of my time here in DVD format. I'm sorry I can't do more training events, but I will be able to cache copies of the comm. log at an additional 27 locations on November 4.

What's this all about you might ask? Today is the last phase of the epic adventure of Melissa ilovebees.  Now all the AXIONS are HOT Axon Wavs  believe it or not. There everywhere Axon map  and together they form a story Transcripts .  Do I have the answers, it's all about November 9th
