I can still recall the dust and ash raining down and covering my truck from the last eruption of Mount St Helens…and I was three thousand miles away. Volcanoes are the earth’s way of winking at us, and we should be both awed and inspired by them.
“Solid as a rock” and “you can’t move a mountain”, are silly human phrases reflecting a very limited perception. Now we strive to “think outside the box” and to be agile with “lateral thinking”, attaining what the mystics called “enlightenment”.
Doesn’t true enlightenment bring contentment with a realization of our place in the universe? Can we find insight on the road to understanding the cosmic order and use the tension of forces to spark the creativity we need to survive?
I am going on a journey to San Francisco to experience Web 2.0, a conference that promises to focus on innovative new web technologies. I always have a good time in San Francisco, but this time I’m hoping to be inspired. I don’t want to hear sales pitches or get rich quick schemes, I want the earth to shake and see the moving magma of American ingenuity.
