Audio Files

Radio has always been a remix of live and recorded material. I don’t own an “IPod” (no Yahoo clip under my chair at Web 2.0), so audio files will never be “podcasting” to me. Talking books and Radio dramas have been with us a long time, why some people are so giddy about Dictaphone quality monotone musings is beyond me.

This “new” form of communication needs to step-up a few notches. I was an audio engineer in an earlier life, we used to edit magnetic tape by hand, splice it with a razor and stick it back together with glue. When I did interviews and someone coughed, it was edited out. A “duh“, spliced away, I had station managers who would scream at me for the slightest bit of “dead air”. We have to start trying different things, a new remix of talk, sounds and inspiration. We all have computers, they make great audio mixers and thankfully we no longer have to smell that glue.
