N3UG

Northern New Jersey .NET User Group (aka N3UG) TONIGHT

ASP.NET Techniques Part II, presented by Miguel Castro

With the release of ASP.NET over 2 years ago, came an entirely different design paradigm than that of which we have been used to in the past. With this immense redefining of the web development process came a new object oriented visual delivery mechanism known as the Web Server Control.

During this session, we will learn exactly what they are, how they work, and better yet, how we can leverage the power of the controls that come with .NET and build our own. We will see how Microsoft has taken reusability and encapsulation to whole new level by enabling us, the developers, to developing web sites using the same component-oriented design paradigms that were available only to rich-clients in the past. We will be building our own functionality-rich practical web server control that we can use right away or use as a basis for extending later. Finally, we'll talk about how custom webserver controls are used in a design style known as declarative programming.

Hope to see some of you there, even if you're not an ASP.Net Developer it's worth the trip just to see Stacey.  : ) Stacey's Email

Other peoples API's

For me Web 2.0 was a great celebration of the accomplishments of the local now global Internet Titians; Amazon, Yahoo, Google and eBay. It was the first time I had met the faces behind the UI's, the personalities that program the systems we engage with everyday. I had a great time as I always do in San Francisco; it seems I always go there for a product launch or a conference complete with parties and people having fun.

Web 2.0 was full of enthusiasm for a bright future, we’ve all had a difficult time these past three years and needed the affirmation that this gathering espoused; we are survivor's soon to be in profitability.

At Web 2.0 there were no group hugs or songs sung, there was however a subtext of free for all software and let's free other peoples API’s. For the first time I heard it expressed that Amazon, Yahoo, Google and eBay were part of the problem. Craiglist was honored for his honesty but at the same time eyeballed as this years Thanksgiving turkey. The only business model mentioned was to open-up their API’s, scrape success on to our website and fill it full of ads.

What kind of music do we like? Free music! Some people still don’t GET-IT, free software, free content, free API’s, but this is California what ever became of free love?
