The Blogging Process

Here's a nice bit from Dave Pollard on “The Blogging Process”.  Checkout the flow chart below, then go read the article.

Subscriptions

Warning: Sport Bitching ahead (Sport Bitch = no real reason, you're just doing it for the sport).

While playing with SQL Reporting services today, there was the usual bit about subscriptions.  “Just click here for subscriptions to this report” and I asked “Is a RSS feed an option”?  Then all you could here was crickets.  Why don't people (aka product managers) include RSS as a subscription option.  And currently the only one that I know off is Vault.  Kudos to Eric for brining that hidden feature out of the closet.

NYC Blogger's dinner

I'm going to be in NYC next week on a project, anyone up for a NYC blogger's dinner?

SQL Server Reporting Services

I'm doing some training on Microsoft's SQL Server Reporting Services and it looks like it's going to kick Crystal Reports square in the Jimmie's.  How many people have you worked have encountered this scenario:

Project Manager: “Hey, do you have any Crystal experience?”

Me: “Crystal, what's that?”

Project Manager: “You know, the reporting application”

Me: “Um-mm, no.  But if you want I could right you an application that generates XML files from queries, that are then rendered into SVG doc's”

Project Manager: “Damn, Gerety always wants to use SVG, I'll go try Clark.”

It's very nice, integrated into Visual Studio.NET and now I'll be happy to put something like this on my skill set (of course, after I implement a world-wide reporting application).  Check it out.
