For all those of you who wanted to go to PDC but didn't get a ticket before it sold out, check out this link on EBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2198175447&category=16122. That's right.... This could be the first time in the history of the industry that people have sold conference tickets for a technical conference on EBay, I wonder how much it will go for :-)
While I was investigating Wiki's I stumbled across this page on the original WikiWikiWeb.
http://www.c2.com/cgi/wiki?HelloWorldInManyProgrammingLanguages
It compares a simple hello world program in numerous different languages, I particularly like the third implementation.
On the subject of Wiki's I am intersted to hear what people think about them, are they a good thing.
Wiki allows for a collaborative dialog on web pages. You may view it as a living, breathing web page that anyone can contribute to. I'm sure when you read the last sentence you were confused: How is it possible for anyone to edit the page without absolute CHAOS breaking out? The answer lies in the fact that we are a responsible community looking for useful information. We respect the Wiki!
Well,
that drink took a long time….. Just got back so I can post my next blog!
or was I working in between? at least it is a long weekend over here and the
sun is shining :)
Couple of
reasons for this post; firstly trying a post from Newsgator running in Outlook.
Secondly
was playing with MSDE today looking for easy ways to manage the basics while it
is running on a remote server without logging into the machine. Found the Web
Data Admin tool on MSDN (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=F0D03472-5E6C-459E-A6D8-6745A729C3C9&displaylang=en)
which allows you too create and manage databases and table structures through a
web interface. It includes full source code so I might look at extending it to
do other things if I get time. Don’t know if anybody else has a
preference for managing their web databases? This one looks ok but could use
more functionality to make it really useful.
Anyway,
it sunny so I am going out on the deck to soak up some rays……
doesn’t happen that much around here (at least, that’s what we tell
the tourists !!!)
Well, I just got in and I'm just going out! infact I can here the reminder for my next meeting ringing in my ear (or actually my pocket). Luckily this one is in a bar with a friend.
As I don't have time to tell you about me that will have to wait for another occasion. Suffice to say that Donny and Doug have kindly set me up on their blogs so you can expect to hear more from me.
As a taster, I am very involved with databases, SQL Server in particular and I'm a brit. Hope that doesn't drive too many of you away, what can I say, there's nothing like anonimity in the virtual community :-)
Anyway, the bar is calling, can you hear it, it's saying 'Time for a Pint', 'Time for a Pint'......
