Don Box called Steve Vinoski, a CORBA guru, to task when Steve noted that the WebMethod infrastructure encourages bad practices with respect to the WSDL contract. The upshot: customers want the ease of use and direct mapping of object methods is here to stay.
But see my discussion on the subject.
The Microsoft patterns & practices team has just published comprehensive .NET application performance guidelines. They even have a Design Guidelines section (my special interest). By Rico and friends. Topics include:
- Managed Code
- Interop
- ASP.NET
- Enterprise Services
- XML
- Web Services
- Remoting
- ADO.NET
- And more!
Another veritable smorgasbord of good coding practice. Come and get it!
