How are our Blogs Doing??

Hello All, This is a community feedback post regarding the .NET Junkies Bloggers - so feel free to be brutally honest. Basically I’ve been the “Moderator” of our WebLogs as far as who gets a Blog (yes we do deny people) and who can maintain a Blog based off of what they post (yes we have kicked people). I don’t want to get into details on how I judge this – I just want to know how we stack up and how we’re doing? We know there are some issues with the runtime we use (very small) so please don’t post about that. These bugs are being worked on and will be fixed soon! We promise! I look forward to your feedback! Thanks! Donny Mack

Online Extortion Ring Broken Up

Three men, ages 21, 22, and 24, were taken into custody this week in separate arrests in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Saratov and Stavropol regions of southwest Russia. The men have not been charged, but are believed to be part of a ring that uses legions of compromised or "zombie" computers to launch denial of service attacks against online sports betting parlors ("sports books") that refuse to pay protection money, says Felicity Bull, a spokesperson for the National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU).

General Network Problems

Hello All,

Thanks for the heads up from everyone this morning. It seems that our server farm was having “general network errors” this morning. I wasn't able to pin point the problem, but a network restart seemed to fix everything.

Sorry for any down time!

Regards,

Donny

Best Profiler Tool

Just wondering what people are using out there for profiling their .NET applications?

Do you use different tools for different situations?

I'm primarily going to be looking at memory issues and it's a very data dependent application so there are lots of database calls. The application is written in C# with approx. 1 million lines of code. This is a Web Application with no COM (all .NET)

Any advice on tools? Thanks in advance!

Yukon and Whidbey Delayed - Mad or Happy?

I'm sure that most of you have read or heard by now that the release date of both Yukon and Whidbey has been delayed. Most of those I've spoken to at Microsoft, Microsoft Partners, and in the Community have told me that while being disappointed with the news of a new timeframe, that they are more than happy to wait a little longer for the release. Why? Because they want the quality, the features, and the revolutionary technology these two extraordinary products are promising to deliver to be done right, or as close to right as possible, the first time.

So instead of the old adage, get the product out on time (even though it may have bugs, or features had to be slashed) to get it into the customers hands and then deliver service pack after service pack until all the features are finally there – most times breaking older features that users have already implemented. They’ve decided to say screw that, let’s just push back the release, do the thing right the first time, and if need be “Add” features later. And sure, they’ll probably get scrutinized by competitors like Oracle (who still uses a date driven model) for not delivering the products on time, but I think in the end they’ll be better off.

So I guess my question is what do you prefer?

A: A date driven model where the corporation delivers on time but not always the best product

B: A feature/application model where the corporation delivers a rock solid product sometimes in a modified time frame.

I know that there are many other issues here, but I’m just wondering about the above.
