Recently I was trying to set up Transactional Replication from a back up copy. After a few hacks and work arounds and lot of trouble-shooting I was able to get it up and running. I documented the steps I followed. Check out the article.

I recently purchased a brand new BMW 325i and was enjoying my ride when I got another good news from Ben Miller yesterday saying I got the MVP award for SQL Server. I was thrilled. I would like to thank those who have nominated me.

Yes..yet another move... being a consultant is hard. This is my 2nd move in less than year. Moving from Louisiana to Utah wasnt as hard. I just packed my clothes and computer into my car and hit the road. Moving to OC was a whole another story. I drove a 17' U Haul to OC. Apparently the U Haul guys didnt have a tow dolly at that time. So I had to fly back to Salt Lake again the following weekend to get my car. Finally I am settled into an apartment. Funnily enough apartments here dont have centralized A/C's (atleast a majority of the ones I checked out dont), they dont have a refrigerator in the apartment and still the rents are sky rocketing !! I am paying twice of what I used to pay for a double bed apt in SLC for a single bed apt here in Irvine. The biggest pain is with traffic. Luckily my office is only 2 mi from my apt and I dont have to take the freeway. So thats a reliever.
So I started my new job today as SQL Developer and it wasnt that bad. Xcept for the company taking me for a ride and delaying the start date by 2 weeks and me either sitting at home or just driving around and not getting paid, it was relieving to finally walk into the office today. I have always had these kind of fears about working for companies in California. True enough.
I like the place but I am still a little frustrated with the company for giving me a ride. Hope that settles down and I enjoy my work.

I have seen this question being asked so many times that I thought I'd post a sample over here. Also I haven't seen any proper sample code anywhere for creating parameterized queries in ASP.NET and SQL Server. All the samples that I have seen used Access. So here it is.

I have been working on RS reports for a while and had been confonted with this issue. When the report does not receive any resultset from the datasource it shows up only the header columns in the report manager which is all ok. In our case this particular report was being exported to Excel and strangely the RS did not send anything except a huge textbox with nothing in it.
And our requirement was that the excel spreadsheet should have the header columns even if there was no data. Now I thought of concatenating all the column names and use the NoRows property but that will be exported as 1 column rather than individual columns.
So I found some work-around for that and wrote up an article under SQL Server 2000. Check it out.
So here I am in Salt Lake City. New job. New people. New friends..and New Activities...
The move from the HOT Louisiana to BUTT FREEZING Salt Lake city was a huge move - in terms of both climate and the work. I hate to spend 20 minutes every morning scraping the ice/mist off of my windsheilds. I was told this is just the beginning and there's more severe winter ahead...I never thought of taking an apartment with a covered garage...If I survive this winter next year I should. But th ebest part of the move is I am learning Snowboarding (SB) and Ice-Skating. SnowBoarding is so much fun..I just spent a couple of hundred bucks yesterday for the board/shoes/bindings. I am also gonna buy the winter wear..and get into SB even more. IceSkating is okay but I keep falling over my butt all the time and its taking more time than my patience.

Well,this is my first BLOG entry. I've decided to hop on to the blog bandwagon too.
My name is Dinakar and I am from India. I have been working with .NET for a little more than an year and have come a long way since then.
There is so much information that I come across that is truly useful that having a collection of all the articles at one place will be helpful for myself as well as other people.
Blogging seems to make a lot of sense as an actual time saver for me.
I am going to try to type some of my thoughts on a regular basis. Maybe once I get more into this blogging thing, I'll get around to updating my website more often.
