Proposal for an open standard for Office documents

Some days ago Sun, according to a recommendation by the European Commission for Interchange of Data to have an open standard for exchangements of electronic documents, has proposed the OpenOffice open source document format as a new standard (the OASIS Open Document Format).

I've not seen too much community reactions about this proposal...

I think that having a common format for office documents could be really a good idea, expecially for portability (you could write your document with OpenOffice, Microsoft Office or with a Mac system and easily port your documents on another platform without conversions or modifications). Obviously, the standard must be well evaluated. it must be open, free and accessible.

What do you think about this proposal?
