MCAD/MCSD First Exam!

Whoa! My first real exam since university seven years ago!

I passed 070-316 (Developing & Implementing Windows based Applications with C#.NET) yesterday with ease, which was a relief.

The transcendor exams were really helpful, and actually I found the real exam much easier. (Some of the Transcendor questions are in fact ambiguous, with the answer being more of an opinion than of a fact)

What helped my nerves was having a parachute from Microsoft with their 'Second Shot' promotion: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/offers/2ndshot/

On to the next exam! Web Services (070-315)

Microsoft Mobile & Embedded DevCon 2005 UK - June 10th

MCSD study with PocketPC

I'm using the Microsoft  Self-Paced Training Kit study set to help prepare my exams. There are many opinions regarding the usefulness of these books, but my take is that knowing the contents of these books is no bad thing, even if they seem to be written with Visual Basic rather than C# in mind. Just be prepared to do extra study from other sources.

These books are big and heavy, and not really practical when I want to brush up on the move, but they do include a CD with all the books in CHM format.

They are not too large eigher, with all books taking just under 9MB of space.

So I have taken to loading them onto my iPaq, and carrying around the full set wherever I go!

I use a free program called CHM Reader, which has a nice interface.

There is an older version of this program available on CodeProject, which doesn't seem to use the Compact Framework, is much faster, and may also work on older machines.
